START and CLOSE Routine

START Routine

START Routine is a structured, consistent set of actions that students follow at the beginning of every lesson to ensure a calm, organised, and focused transition into learning.

It involves:

  • Stand outside the classroom quietly
  • Take assigned seats promptly and calmly
  • Arrange materials and workspace
  • Ready homework for checking
  • Time to begin learning immediately

In essence:
A predictable entry routine that maximises learning time and sets clear expectations for behaviour, organisation, and readiness.

  • Listen to recap of learning
  • Organise materials and workspace
  • Speak to the teacher if needed
  • Exit calmly when instructed

In essence:
A consistent exit routine that reinforces learning, promotes responsibility, and ensures a smooth transition to the next class.
